Sunday, 17 January–2nd Sunday After Epiphany

Sooo…this week’s post is going up a little early, but Sunday is planned out and the end of hte week will be a little crazy. This Sunday, we’ll be following the lectionary passages John 2:1-11 and 1 Corinthians 12:1-11. In the John text, the story of the wedding at Cana is presented as the first of the “signs” that Jesus is the Messiah. John doesn’t use the word “miracles” to describe what Jesus does, instead, he refers to turning water into wine as a “sign” that Jesus is the Messiah. The Corinthians passage is the first part of a section on spiritual gifts. We’ll start talking about spiritual gifts in community this week, and then wrap up our discussion next week with a more in-depth look at spiritual gifts on a more personal level. The sermon is entitled “Activate!” and we’ll explore how the Holy Spirit can Activate! spiritual gifts for the good of the Church.

Other things in the service will include the choirs of both Mt. Tabor and Deer Creek singing a medley of “Bind Us Together” and “Blest Be the Tie That Binds.” There will be a Children’s Moment for the children, several additional hymns and prayers. Children’s Sunday School is held at Deer Creek at 9am. Children’s bulletins are provided.

After the 11 am service at Mt. Tabor, join us for a covered dish luncheon in our fellowship hall to welcome our new pastor, Bonnie McCubbin. Bring something to share if you want, but please bring yourself! We hope to see you there!

The Deborah Circle of the United Methodist Women will meet at 7pm on Monday, January 18th at Mt. Tabor. All women are invited to attend.

We hope to see you this weekend at any or all of our events! We want to shower you will love and provide a safe and welcoming place to explore faith with us. Let us journey with you into a new or deeper relationship with God! Blessings.
