Sunday, 14 February–Transfiguration Sunday

Whew…the latest ginormous snow storm is over! We’re now working on getting everything shoveled and plowed out in time for worship on Sunday! We hope that you will be able to join us in praising God, but please use your best judgement in regards to safely traveling to church. Some roads may be icy.

All that being said, Sunday’s worship will be WONDERFUL! We have the opportunity to gather together in praise and thanksgiving as a community…because of the weather, we haven’t been able to do this fully in several weeks. Sooo…on the line-up for Sunday is communion, which was post-poned from last week (check out what we think about communion by scrolling to the bottom of the link’s page!); as well as an anthem from the choir. The sermon will be a mixture of last week’s message and new passages for this Sunday–transfiguration Sunday. The scripture passages are: Isaiah 6:1-13, Luke 5:1-11 (from last week), and Exodus 34:29-35, Luke 9:28-36 (from this week). The title is: “Experiencing God: So now what?” We have several hymns, including old favorites, “Holy, Holy, Holy;” “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus;” “Standing on the Promises,” and “Here I am, Lord.” We’ll also have time to share our joys and concerns. Please join us!

Announcements for the week:

The annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner will be held on Tuesday, February 16, from 5-7pm. Come join your church family and help kick-off the season of Lent! A love offering will be accepted. Location: Mt. Tabor.

Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent, a season that prepares us for the resurrection of Christ on Easter, will be observed with a charge worship service on Wednesday, February 17, at 7pm. Location: Deer Creek.

There will be a joint SPRC meeting on Thursday (February 17) at 7:30pm to discuss charge, church and pastoral goals for the year. Location: Mt. Tabor.

There will be a soup and sandwich meal for the 3rd Sunday Refreshments Event on February 21, after worship (approx. 12 noon). We hope you can join us and bring what you are able. Location: Mt. Tabor.

The Food Basket Collection at Mt. Tabor has been slow recently. Please bring in non-perishable food for the basket. The food is then taken to the Mason-Dixon Community Food Bank for our neighbors in need.

It’s not too late to join the Genesis Bible Study! Join us on Wednesdays from 11am-12 noon. Cost: $10, for participant book. Location: Sunday School Room, Deer Creek.

Summer Camp is coming up! There are camps for all ages (even adults!) and family camps. See a brochure, go online to http://www.bwccampsandretreats.com or talk to Bonnie if you are interested. Scholarships are available. Discounts for campers who have a parent volunteer as a counselor for any age. Could we get a volunteer team together?

Donations for Haiti relief efforts continue. Donate online by going to http://www.umcor.org and clicking on the appropriate link. Or, you can write a check to “Conference Treasurer,” noting “Haiti Emergency, UMCOR Advance #418325” in the memo line. The check can be placed in the offering plate. UMCOR, the United Methodist Committee on Relief, is the humanitarian arm of the UMC. 100% of donations go to those in need.

Join us for worship this week on either/both Sunday at 9am or 11am, and on Wednesday at 7pm! We’d LOVE to have you and welcome you with open arms…you are a part of our family!

Blessings as you continue your journey and walk with God.
