The Lorax, Getting Rich and The Bible…Sunday, 1 August 2010

Thanks for stopping by Deer Creek Charge! We hope that you’ll join us in worship at either Deer Creek UMC or Mt. Tabor UMC (or both!) soon! We can’t wait to welcome you! This week at the Creek, we’ll be taking a look at Luke 12:13-21 where Jesus is telling a parable (teaching story) about a farmer who had a great crop one year and no where to store it. So the farmer built a bigger barn and then died. What should the man have done instead? Check out the passage and come to worship to find out!

This week, we’ll be looking at how Dr. Seuss’ story, The Lorax, can teach us a lesson about being rich towards God and what this has to do with the Bible! The choirs at the churches are taking a well-deserved break for the month of August, so we’re looking for some special musicians to help fill the gaps! If you or anyone you know would like to help us out, we’d really appreciate it! We will also celebrate the sacrament of Holy Communion this week! Everyone is ALWAYS welcome to participate–even if you never have before. Check out our worship page for more info on this. There will always be fellowship, love, prayers and sharing what God is doing in our lives. Come join us as we learn from one another!

Submissions MUST be in writing w/ enough copies for the council. Location: Deer Creek.

BOTH Choirs are taking a break for the month of August. If you (or someone you know) is interested in providing music during this time, please let us know. We would welcome your gifts! Dates open: Aug. 8, 15, 22.

Deer Creek Women’s Circle will be hosting the annual Peach Festival on Sunday, August 15 at 6pm. A freewill offering will be taken to benefit UMCOR, a non-profit group through the UMC that helps people recover from disasters all over the world. Join us!

We will have a “Blessing of the Backpacks” (and students, parents, teachers, bus drivers, “lunch ladies,” support staff, etc.) on Sunday, August 29th during the Children’s Message. Please bring your backpacks or other “tools of the trade” as we embark on a new and exciting school year!

On July 4th we introduced a new visual aid for worship that will continue for several weeks. Come watch as the lighthouse painting grows and develops each week as we as a congregation journey towards letting our light shine for Christ in our community. If you have ideas for how we can better be in mission with the community (instead of to the community), please share them!

Monday, August 30, 7pm: S/PPRC meeting to work on compensation packages, etc. for 2011 in preparation for charge conference. Location: TBD.

Sunday, October 17, “After Worship”: Charge Conference. All members of the both churches are invited to attend. If you are the chair of a committee, we need you to be present, if at all possible. It will be led by Rev. Bruce Haskins, our Adventure Guide.  Note: Bonnie is assuming that the meeting will be held at Mt. Tabor since it is “after worship” but stay tuned for details as we get confirmation on this from our guide.
