Cloudy…with a chance of Witness? (Sunday, 15 August 2010)

Great to have you back at Deer Creek Charge! The past few days around here have been overcast…well, Thursday had some massive downpours and minor flooding around Deer Creek! All this rain made me think of clouds and Sunday’s scripture passage from Hebrews 11:29-12:2…a continuation of the “Hall of Faith” from last week, and pushing us forward to thinking about the “Cloud of Witnesses” that have lived lives faithful to God…and helped teach us to do the same.  Sunday’s sermon is entitled “Stair-Climbers” because of an illustration from a colonnade. Confused? Well, don’t be! Come check us out on Sunday and find out more! There will be multi-sensory elements of worship…like we often have 🙂 Join us as we praise God together!

We have a lot of things coming up in the next few weeks! TODAY after worship at Mt. Tabor, there will be our third Sunday of the month food and fellowship time! Bring a dish and/or yourself and join in the fun! Also, during the meal, anyone who is interested in helping with Mt. Tabor’s Homecoming celebration in September is welcome to help plan. We need your help! Top of the list includes picking a date, getting a speaker list, and finding the list of folks to invite 🙂 ALSO on Sunday is the Peach Festival at Deer Creek! 6pm. Join us for icecream, peaches, cakes and more!! (all free!).

Next week during worship, Autumn Capers, a liturgical dancer, will help present the message and offer her talents in praise to God! The following week we will welcome Stephanie Isberg, a vocalist, to worship with us. Then on September 12th, Sign of the Cross, a sign language choir from Lexington Park UMC in Southern Maryland, will be with us to share their expression of worship! You won’t want to miss any of these!!

TODAY, after worship (during fellowship time), Mt. Tabor will be having a Homecoming Kick-off Meeting to plan for the annual event in September. Can’t make it but still want to be involved? Please let Bonnie know. Location: Mt. Tabor.

TODAY, the Women’s Circle will be hosting the annual Peach Festival at 6pm. A freewill offering will be taken to benefit UMCOR, a non-profit group through the UMC that helps people recover from disasters all over the world. Join us! Location: Deer Creek.

DUE NEXT SUNDAY: School supplies for children in need through Mason-Dixon Community Services. If you are interested in helping out, please see the list by the entrance for what to bring. Location: Deer Creek.

We will have a “Blessing of the Backpacks” (and students, parents, teachers, bus drivers, “lunch ladies,” support staff, etc.) on Sunday, August 29th during the Children’s Message. Please bring your backpacks or other “tools of the trade” as we embark on a new and exciting school year!

S/PPRC will be meeting on Monday August 30th at 7pm to work on compensation packages, etc. for 2011 in preparation for charge conference. Location: Mt. Tabor.

Sunday, October 17, “After Worship”: Charge Conference. All members of the both churches are invited to attend. If you are the chair of a committee, we need you to be present, if at all possible. It will be led by Rev. Bruce Haskins, our Adventure Guide.  Note: Bonnie is assuming that the meeting will be held at Mt. Tabor since it is “after worship” but stay tuned for details as we get confirmation on this from our guide.
