He Touched Me! (Sunday, 22 August 2010)

Thanks for stopping by! We’re so glad that you are coming by our website, and we hope that you will join us “live” on Sundays at 9am at Deer Creek or 11am at Mt. Tabor! See the “Directions” tab for info on how to get to us! Our communities are growing weekly, and we hope that you will be part of this exciting time as we continuously learn to grow deeper in our faith.

This Sunday, we are looking at Luke 13:10-17, where Jesus heals the crippled woman in the synagogue on the sabbath. Jesus is then challenged by the religious authorities for breaking a serious sabbath law. How does the situation get resolved? How does this apply to our lives in 2010? Come join us and find out how we can make a 2,000 year old story relevant to us! The sermon title is “He Touched Me!” This week, the choirs are taking a break because we have a special guest artist–Ms. Autumn Capers–who will be sharing her gift of dance in worship! Autumn is a liturgical dancer and a senior at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. She became a Christian a few years ago and now is generous with her time and gifts to us in worship! If you’ve never seen liturgical dance in worship (or even if you have!) this is a treat you won’t want to miss! (Next Sunday, Stephanie Isberg will be lending her vocal talents to us!)

We had a great 3rd Sunday Fellowship and Refreshments time at Mt. Tabor last week! The food was delicious (as always!), and the fellowship can’t be matched! You won’t want to miss next month’s 3rd Sunday refreshments…it is an all-out potluck to coincide with the annual Homecoming Celebration! (See the annoucements below for details!).  We also had the Peach Festival last week at Deer Creek! (It was a busy Sunday!). We counted at least 33 people who came (and possibly a few more…)…and the building was over-flowing with people, fellowship, good conversation, children, youth, young adults, middle-aged folks and seniors! It was truly a “family affair.” There were so many cakes that some had to be frozen…we couldn’t eat them all! Mark your calendars for next year…this event is a “must!”

You and your family are always welcome to join us for worship, fellowship time, a meal, a community activity or anything we are doing. We are working hard to ensure that “faith” and “religion” are culturally relevent, speak to your life and most importantly, praise God. If we aren’t doing our job, please let us know. Leave us a message, send an email, pick up the phone and call, or drop by and let us know what we can do to better meet you on your spiritual journey. God IS in the house!

DUE TODAY: School supplies for children in need through Mason-Dixon Community Services. If you are interested in helping out, please see the list by the entrance for what to bring. Location: Deer Creek.

We will have a “Blessing of the Backpacks” (and students, parents, teachers, bus drivers, “lunch ladies,” support staff, etc.) NEXT SUNDAY during the Children’s Message. Please bring your backpacks or other “tools of the trade” as we embark on a new and exciting school year!

S/PPRC will be meeting on Monday August 30th at 7pm to work on compensation packages, etc. for 2011 in preparation for charge conference. Location: Mt. Tabor.

Follow-up to the S/PPRC Meeting to Vote on the Recommendations:

Mt. Tabor Church Council: Sunday, September 5th after worship. Location: Mt. Tabor.

Deer Creek Church Council: Monday, September 13th at 7pm. Location: Deer Creek.

Charge Council (BOTH churches): Monday, September 27th at 7pm. Location: Deer Creek.

Mt. Tabor would like to invite everyone to their annual Homecoming Celebration on Sunday, September 19th at 11am. The guest preacher will be Rev. Dr. Karin Walker, our District Superintendent. Caitlin Katrinic, Pat Raab’s granddaughter, will be the vocalist. A potluck lunch will follow. Location: Mt. Tabor.

Sunday, October 17, “After Worship”: Charge Conference. All members of the both churches are invited to attend. If you are the chair of a committee, we need you to be present, if at all possible. It will be led by Rev. Bruce Haskins, our Adventure Guide.  Note: Bonnie is assuming that the meeting will be held at Mt. Tabor since it is “after worship” but stay tuned for details as we get confirmation on this from our guide.
