A Persistent Faith–Sunday, 17 October 2010

Welcome back to Deer Creek Charge! We’re so excited that you are here! There is so much going on right now…please be sure to check out the “Announcements” section at the bottom of the post…and join us for any or all of our activities, ministries, outreaches, etc.

This Sunday, we are taking a fresh look at Luke 18:1-8…the story about persistent prayer of a widow…or is it? This story seems strange when you read it…so what the heck does it have to do with life in America in 2010? Join us for worship and find out! (Hint: The unjust judge isn’t God…the unjust judge is the antithesis–opposite–of God!) The sermon title is “A Persistent Faith” and we would love to explore this topic with you!

We’re also having the 3rd Sunday Food and Fellowship–AKA, Methodist Potluck!–as a combined fellowship activity with both Deer Creek and Mt. Tabor! It will be about noon at Mt. Tabor (or right after worship)…and before our annual charge conference. We’ve been working hard this year to make sure that we are a church that is following Christ, growing in both numbers and spiritual depth, learning how to reach out to our surrounding community and across the globe, and generally just being good disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world! Join us as we celebrate our accomplishments and plan for the next year. All are welcome to attend charge conference, but only professing members are allowed to vote.

Announcements:

Charge ConferenceTODAY, 12 noon. All members of the both churches are invited to attend. This is our annual meeting to see how things are going. It is important that we have representatives from BOTH churches. It will be led by Rev. Bruce Haskins, our Adventure Guide.  Join us for a potluck lunch at noon, with the business meeting to follow. Location: Mt. Tabor.

The Deborah Circle of the United Methodist Women will meet TOMORROW at 7pm. All women are invited to attend! Location: Mt. Tabor.

The Deer Creek Sunday School is looking for 4 or 5 shoeboxes for a Sunday School project on October 31st. If you have a shoebox you could donate, please bring it to church NEXT SUNDAY. The children thank you!

All Saints Sunday will be observed on Sunday, November 7th at both churches. If you have a friend or family member that has passed away since November of 2009, and you would like their name to be read on that Sunday, please PRINT their name LEGIBLY on the list on the table at Deer Creek or on the bulletin board at Mt. Tabor. Deadline: Sunday, October 31.

A VERY SHORT Bible Study on Psalms will be offered during Advent (starting the week of November 28). We will meet for 4 weeks and look at 4 different Psalms for 45 minutes-1 hour. This will be a creative and reflective time. There will be no preparation and no written homework. There is no workbook to buy. Come for one or all four of the sessions. We’ll start with Psalm 1 and end with Psalm 150. Sound intriguing? Sign up and let Bonnie know you are interested. Possible meeting times include Mondays (day or evening), Fridays (late morning), or Sundays before/after worship. When can you come? Location TBD by participants/day/time.

An Advent Celebration will be held on December 12th at 5pm. The Women’s Circle will provide hors d’oeuvres and beverages.  Please bring a dessert.  If you would like to participate in a gift exchange, please bring a wrapped gift costing $5 or less.  A hymn sing is planned.  Come one and all and make merry (please invite family and friends)! Location: Deer Creek.

Deer Creek will be sponsoring a family for Thanksgiving and providing all the “fixin’s” for a classic American dinner. We would like to invite the community to participate by donating food in provided grocery bags and leaving them outside on a given day. If you are interested in participating, send us an email (deercreekcharge@gmail.com) or respond to this post. Stay tuned for more details!
