Get it Right! (Sunday, 24 October 2010)

Hello from Deer Creek Charge! Thanks for stopping by! Today in worship we are looking at the parable of the Pharisee (religious guy) and the tax collector (bottom feeder in society). It’s found in Luke 18:9-14. We encourage you to read, study and meditate on it! Our sermon focuses on what it means to establish a “right relationship” with God. The parable seems to be about humility, but in reality, it’s about which person allows room for God to work and transform their life. Hymns, prayers, an anthem from the choir and more will help to round out our worship experience this week. We would love for you to join us in worship! Our hearts, minds and doors are open.

This week is sort of the lull before the storm in events! We wrapped up some loose ends last week, and we’ll start again in earnest soon. Please take a look at the announcements and join us for one or all of our activities! We’d LOVE to see you!!

May God bless you and your family and friends as you journey towards being made more fully who God intended for you to be! If we at the Deer Creek Charge can help you in any way in this journey, please contact us so that we may come alongside you in your faith journey!

Announcements:

Thank you to everyone who either stayed or came back out for charge conference! The show of support is wonderful, and the conference is very pleased with our progress!

All Saints Sunday will be observed on Sunday, November 7th at both churches. If you have a friend or family member that has passed away since November of 2009, and you would like their name to be read on that Sunday, please PRINT their name LEGIBLY on the list on the table at Deer Creek or on the bulletin board at Mt. Tabor. Deadline: Sunday, October 31.

Deer Creek will hold an interest meeting on Monday, November 1 at 7pm to plan for collecting food for our sponsored families for Thanksgiving at Christmas. We would need people to organize the collection (gather plastic bags and staple notes), distribute the bags door-to-door, and then go back later to collect the bags. If you are interested in helping with any of these things, but cannot make the meeting, contact Cheryl or Bonnie.

A Nominations Committee Meeting will be held on Monday, November 8 at 7pm for BOTH CHURCHES. Not sure if you are on the committee? Check the posted list or ask Bonnie. Please bring your ideas with you. Location: Mt. Tabor.

A P/SPRC Meeting will be held on Monday, November 22 at 7pm for BOTH CHURCHES. This will be to go over the pastoral end-of-the-year evaluation. Location: Deer Creek.

A VERY SHORT Bible Study on Psalms will be offered during Advent (starting the week of November 28). We will meet for 4 weeks and look at 4 different Psalms for 45 minutes-1 hour. This will be a creative and reflective time. There will be no preparation and no written homework. There is no workbook to buy. Come for one or all four of the sessions. We’ll start with Psalm 1 and end with Psalm 150. Sound intriguing? Sign up and let Bonnie know you are interested. Possible meeting times include Mondays (day or evening), Fridays (late morning), or Sundays before/after worship. When can you come? Location TBD by participants/day/time.

An Advent Celebration will be held on December 12th at 5pm. The Women’s Circle will provide hors d’oeuvres and beverages.  Please bring a dessert.  If you would like to participate in a gift exchange, please bring a wrapped gift costing $5 or less.  A hymn sing is planned.  Come one and all and make merry (please invite family and friends)! Location: Deer Creek.
