The Backwards King–Sunday, 21 November 2010

Great to see you around the Deer Creek Charge! We’re so glad you’re stopping by! We have a lot of wonderful things going on right now, and we are hoping and praying that you will be part of them. You are always welcome…just as you are.

Deer Creek has collected quite a lot of food for our Thanksgiving and Christmas family! The community response has been amazing! If you were part of that effort, a great big THANK YOU!!!! We know the family will be appreciative! (If you aren’t sure what we’re talking about, check out the “Feed the Hungry” tab). Monetary donations for the perishable items and a turkey are still being accepted through Sunday. After Thanksgiving we will work on Christmas donations. We thank you in advance for your help!

This Sunday at Mt. Tabor we are having our 3rd Sunday refreshments! It will be wonderful! Come as you are and join us after worship for some delectable goodies!

We have several opportunities for worship this week. On Sunday, we will be gathering at Deer Creek at 9am and Mt. Tabor at 11am for our “regular” Sunday worship service…although we hope that nothing about the service is “regular” or boring! Music, prayer, scripture and a message relevent to your life. (Seriously…if it’s not, then let us know because we haven’t done our job and will work to make that better). The sermon title is “The Backwards King.” Curious? You’ll have to come out and hear the story of the Backwards King to find out who he is. If you want, check out Luke 23:33-43 as a preview.

Also happening worship-wise this week is our annual Thanksgiving Eve service. This service has been dubbed, “Faith, Food, Fellowship and Football.” It will be a combined service with both congregations at 7pm on Wednesday (November 24) at Mt. Tabor UMC. Join us as we celebrate and give thanks to God for the many blessings in our lives. Our lay speaker, David Moore, will be preaching. Afterwards, rumor has it that there will be pies and other goodies available in the fellowship hall! Yum! Come one, come all!

As we head into the winter holidays, this can be a tough time for many folks. What is supposed to be a joyous celebration can feel downright miserable. If that’s the case for you, please know that you are not alone. We here at the Deer Creek charge are ready and willing to journey with you and accompany you through all the times in your life–the good, the bad and the ugly. If you have questions or concerns, please contact us. We would love to hear from you.
