Don’t Worry, Be Happy! (Sunday, 27 February 2011)

Welcome back to the Deer Creek Charge! Thanks for stopping by. This week we will be continuing our theme of social justice and exploring further steps we can take to make a difference in our local community by changing the systems and structures that lead to the dehumanizing of our fellow humans. We’ll be looking at this in the context of the Sermon on the Mount and what Christ has to say about worry (Matthew 6:24-34). Come out ready to be changed and ready to take action!

We have a LOT of great things going on right now at the Deer Creek Charge! Check out the announcements below, and pay attention to the dates for our Lenten Worship services and dinners…you are ALWAYS welcome to come and join us for any and all of our ministries and missions and activities! Children are ALWAYS welcome and involved in what we do at the Deer Creek Charge! If you are curious and want more info, make sure to email us at and we’ll be sure to get back to you! We’re a family in the DCC, and we want to bring you into our family. Won’t you join us as we journey closer to God?

A COMBINED SPPRC will meet briefly on TUESDAY at 7pm. Location: Mt. Tabor.

There is now a food donation box at Deer Creek. Food will be donated to Centre UMC’s food pantry. Always needed items include: spaghetti sauce, peanut butter, jelly, baked beans and canned fruit. Talk to Kim with questions.

Did last Sunday’s sermon motivate you to get involved in the community, but you don’t know how? Here’s one way: Volunteer for 2 hours (weekly/monthly) at Centre UMC’s (Forest Hill) God Provides Food Pantry! People are needed on Wednesdays from 10-noon (especially needed) and from 6-8pm. Arrive about 10-15 minutes before the start time to get oriented. It is in their educational building (follow the signs). Let Bonnie know if you have questions or if you plan to go!

Bible Study starts THIS WEEK! (Don’t forget your homework!)

Deer Creek will have their study on Monday mornings at 11am (choir @10)
Mt. Tabor will have their study on Sundays at 12:15 (right after worship).

The money donated to the Magic Jar this month will go to help provide gift cards for replacement blinds at the women and children’s shelter, Susannah Wesley House, in Baltimore. This is a mission of the Deborah Circle of the UMW. Talk to Nancy with questions. Location: Mt. Tabor.

Do you know someone who plays the piano and/or organ? We are looking for someone who can help us out either in the interim or become our permanent accompanist for Deer Creek. There is a small stipend. If you know someone who would be interested, or would like more info, please see either Bonnie or Cheryl.

Worship Fun Fact!

This is the 8th Sunday After Epiphany (which we celebrated on Jan. 2, but is actually Jan. 6—12 days after the birth of Christ). The Season After Epiphany has between 3 and 8 Sundays (depending on the date of Easter). We can only have 8 Sundays after Epiphany (and before Lent) if Easter falls on April 23, 24 or 25. (It last happened in 2000, and won’t happen again until 2038).
