To Be Continued…Where Are You, God?!?! Sunday, 20 March 2011

Hey There! Thanks for checking us out. We’re sorry that this didn’t get posted until after worship today, but we hope that you’ll stop by next week and see us just the same! Worship this morning was Spirit-filled and uplifting. We were challenged in the sermon to dare to question God, but to also keep seeking answers to those really challenging questions…questions like, “Where were you, God, in the midst of the Libyan crisis?” or “Are you with the people of Japan? Why is there so much tragedy and destruction?!?” or “Where are you, God as my family member lays hurt, sick or dying? Where were you when they were diagnosed with cancer? Where were you when we were evicted from our house or couldn’t afford food? Where are you, God?” Here at the Deer Creek Charge, faith is about more than hearing “answers”…it’s about being bold enough to dare to ask the question. Faith is about using your brain (something God gave you!) to evaluate what is said. We all have different views and ideas…but that’s what makes discussion so much fun! If you are daring enough to be bold and think about the faith that is handed to you, come join us as we continue asking the tough questions and wrestling with the even tougher answers. (And in case you were wondering, the scripture passages for today’s sermon were Psalm 121 and John 3:-17…all about new birth!)

We have a TON of things going on around the DCC in the upcoming weeks! Check out the announcements below, and don’t forget to look at the Holy Week Schedules here. Also, if you know of a musician who can help us out at Deer Creek, please let us know. A brief description can be found here. Thanks!

Announcements:

Because of all our fellowship dinners in recent weeks, there is NO 3RD SUNDAY FELLOWSHIP after worship today at Mt. Tabor. The next one is on April 17th.

Scripture Readers are needed at Deer Creek. You don’t have to be a “perfect” reader—the scripture is provided for you months in advance, so you can practice. Training can be provided. Sign up on the clipboard. Please consider serving God in this way.

Soup & Sandwich Lenten Dinner hosted by the Women’s Circle at Deer Creek—NEXT SUNDAY, 5pm. A variety of soups, sandwiches and desserts will be served. A freewill offering will be collected and the money donated to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) to go towards the disaster in Japan. Location: Deer Creek.

Summer camp brochures are available! Friends, Fun, Faith…learn about God in the outdoors while having a fabulous time! Camps for all interests and all ages, including families. Scholarships are available. Talk to Bonnie for details. You can also get info online here.

There is an on-going calendar for sign-ups to help with Centre UMC’s food pantry, so that we don’t overwhelm them with volunteers. Sign up once, or once per month! We’ve already sent several people. Can’t make it out? Food items that are especially needed are: baked beans, cereal, canned fruit, spaghetti/sauce, “goodies” (cookies, pudding, brownies, etc.). Location: Deer Creek.

The money donated to the Magic Jar this month will go to help provide gift cards for replacement blinds at the women and children’s shelter, Susannah Wesley House, in Baltimore. This is a mission of the Deborah Circle of the UMW. Talk to Nancy with questions. Brochures are available next to the jar. Location: Mt. Tabor.

We are still looking for someone to play piano and/or organ either permanently or temporarily at Deer Creek. Please talk to folks you know. A small stipend is available.

Worship Fun Fact!

This is the second Sunday of Lent. Notice the purple paraments (the cloths that decorate the pulpit, altar, etc). We use purple as a “somber” color to remind us of penance and the sacrifice of Christ that is coming in a few weeks.
