Were you there when they crucified my Lord? (Good Friday Worship TONIGHT)

Were you there when they crucified my Lord? This African American Spiritual wrenches your heart and puts you at the foot of the cross. Join us TONIGHT for our 7pm service to remember anew the crucifiction (death) of Jesus Christ, Lord and Savior of the whole world. The service will be an interactive tenebrae service. Tenebrae is an old tradition that involves lighting candles and extinguishing one at a time as Christ gets closer and closer to death, and we are all plunged into darkness. There will be an opportunity to confess your sins and nail them to the cross (literally). Please join us at 7pm at Mt. Tabor as we journey to the cross together. We will depart in silence tonight.

Parents often wonder if they should bring children to this type of service. The answer is YES! Children need to hear about the death of Jesus too. This is not a story just for adults. Jesus came to save ALL people–and children are people too! That being said, the service is quiet, reflective, and meditative. There will be some interaction, and the scripture will be a story (about 20 minutes. The entire service should be about 30-35 minutes in length). There will not be a sermon. There may be opportunities for some children to take a limited leadership role in the service, if they desire. And a Holy Week coloring book is available if that would help your child focus. So if they can listen to a 20 minute story, please come! If they are not yet at that point, we encourage you to read or tell the story together at home, and join us next year.
