Fences and Sheep (Sunday, 15 May 2011)

Thanks for stopping by the Deer Creek Charge again! We’re so glad you are here! This Sunday, we will be trying something new in worship! The sermon will be digital and interactive! After a brief introduction and some basic background, we’ll be playing a video that is set to music that our pastor created for this purpose. Come on out…take a look around you…watch the video…you might see some familiar faces! After the video, there will be a brief “talk back” time where we can reflect on the message together. Come on out and explore with us what it means to have “fences” in our churches, to be “sheep” with our “Good Shepherd,” and how we can best reach out and bring others into our “flock.” Confused? Check out John 10:1-10 to get started on what I’m talking about. Then join us on Sunday to continue the exploration.

As Christians, our life together is about more than just coming to worship or participating in a Bible Study. It’s a life of radical discipleship. We need to be radical in how we interact with one another and others. We need to be radical in how we interact with God. How can we do this? Join us as we continue to explore this in community. None of us have all the answers. But  together, we can help one another live into this crazy state-of-being that we call “Christian.”

There’s a TON going on around the Deer Creek Charge today and in the next couple of weeks. Be sure to check out the announcements and join us for any or all of the activities/ministries/outreach, etc.!

3rd Sunday Fellowship atMt.Tabor will be TODAY. Join us for food, fun and fellowship immediately after worship!

TODAY as part of our Bible Study, we will be taking a trip to the Strawbridge Shrine in New Windsor (Carroll County) which is the location of the First American Conversion to Methodism. We will go on a tour, hosted by the curator. There is no cost (freewill donations accepted). Depart FROM MT. TABOR (carpool) at 1pm. Return by 6pm.

The annual Yard Sale will be held on THIS SATURDAY (May 21), 8am-1pm. If you have items to donate or would like to purchase a table, please contact Sandy or Jean. Location: Mt. Tabor.

Have you ever wondered how you can join the congregation of Deer Creek or Mt.Tabor? If you are interested in making a profession of faith (first time joining a church as a youth or adult), or transferring your membership from another congregation, please see Bonnie so that we can find a time to chat briefly about what membership means and what you are professing (as well as get info if you are transferring). New members will officially join the congregation on Pentecost (June 12th). If you can’t make it that day, we can find another Sunday that works.

If you would like to donate to the relief and recovery efforts after the tornadoes in the South, you can donate through UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief). Make checks payable to “BW Conference Treasurer” with “UMCOR Advance #3021326—Spring Storms” in the memo line. Place it in the offering plate.

Scripture Readers are needed at Deer Creek. You don’t have to be a “perfect” reader—the scripture is provided in advance, so you can practice. Training can be provided. Sign up on the clipboard. Please consider serving God in this way.

Summer camp brochures are available! Friends, Fun, Faith…learn about God in the outdoors while having a fabulous time! Camps for all interests and all ages, including families. Scholarships are available. Talk to Bonnie for details., grab a brochure, or go online to

Worship Fun Fact! We are still in the Easter Season in the Church. The origin of the English word, Easter, is disputed, but may come from the Anglo-Saxon spring goddess, Eastre, and her festival.
