It’s No Yoke! (Sunday, 3 July 2011)

Thanks for stopping by the Deer Creek Charge! The summer is really heating up and we are excited about how God is heating up our lives too! This Sunday, as we prepare to celebrate the birthday of our nation, our message will be about what we “yoke” ourselves to–is it an earthly power or nation; or is it God and God’s Kingdom? Come out and see the connection to God’s grace, rest, and life on earth…you’ve probably never heard a message like this before! Check out Matthew 11:16-30 if you want a sneak preview.

We will also be celebrating Holy Communion–come join us in this sacrament that is one way God gives us grace–the unearned, undeserved gift of God’s love and mercy that we are free to accept or reject. ALL are welcome at God’s Table! We use grape juice (not wine) so that all are free to receive. If you have questions about this, please see the pastor.

Today at Mt. Tabor we will be having an outdoor worship service (weather permitting)! Come as you are…bring a lawn chair/blanket, and worship the Creator in the great out doors!

At both churches, we will continue to share our “faith boxes.” Not sure what a “faith box” is? It’s a way for us to think about the people, events, values, beliefs, etc. that have shaped our core faith journey. We have supplies for you and everything! Join us and share your faith journey…we are all in this great adventure called “life” together!  May God bless you and your journey! We look forward to seeing you in person around the Deer Creek Charge!

Check us out on Facebook! We have a brand new presence…Here’s a link to our page where you can “like” us and have another way to stay in touch with what we are up to! It’s a work in progress and still developing…check back often for updates!

TODAY will be an outdoor service under the trees at Mt. Tabor!

Did you bring your faith box back this week? If not, there’s still time to do so! Please bring it back next week. We will be using them in worship over the course of the summer. If you don’t know what a “faith box” is, please see Bonnie for supplies.

Don’t forget the on-going food drives at both Deer Creek andMt.Tabor! Even when we go away for the summer, hunger does not go away. Please remember to bring in your non-perishable items.

Summer camp brochures are available! Friends, Fun, Faith…learn about God in the outdoors while having a fabulous time! Camps for all interests and all ages, including families. Scholarships are available. Talk to Bonnie for details, grab a brochure, or go online to

Worship Fun Fact! From the United Methodist Book of Worship : (p. 422) “…Special Sundays should never take precedence over the particular day in the Christian year. The special Sundays are placed on the calendar in the context of the Christian year, which is designed to make clear the calling of the Church as the people of God.” This is why we may offer a prayer for a “secular” holiday (Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Independence Day, Veteran’s Day, etc.) but do not make that day the focus of worship. In worship, God is the only focus. As Christians, we are called to be set apart from the world (Romans 12:2).
