God Wrestling (Sunday, 24 July 2011)

Hey! Thanks for checking in! We’re glad you stopped by. This Sunday, we are taking a look at how God wrestles with us (yes…you read that correctly) and trys to form and mold us to be more like God. Anytime we have an encounter with God, we are touched and transformed…and we can never be the same. We’ll be looking at Genesis 32:22-31, where God wrestles Jacob on the bank of the Jabbok River. Come and join us for a time of transformation and rejuvenation! EVERYONE is welcome!

In the mid-Atalantic right now, we are going through a massive heat wave…come join us in worship and beat the heat: we’re prayer conditioned! We are praying for you and hope that you will join us. You truly are welcomed.

NEXT SUNDAY, we will have a guest preacher, Samantha Torgersen. Samantha is a second year MDiv student at Wesley Seminary, and will be starting her ministry placement as a prison chaplain this fall. Please welcome her warmly.

NEXT SUNDAY, could you help with leading worship? In an attempt to help our guest preacher, would you be willing to lead the opening liturgy (MT)? How about asking for or writing down joys/concerns and giving them to Bonnie for the bulletin (DC/MT)? Could you distribute/collect the offering plates and lead the congregation in the prayer afterwards (DC/MT)? Take a “head count” (DC/MT)? Please see Bonnie TODAY if you are able to help.

Did you bring your faith box back this week? If not, there’s still time to do so! Please bring it back next week. We will be using them in worship over the course of the summer. If you don’t know what a “faith box” is, please see Bonnie for supplies.

Don’t forget the on-going food drives at both Deer Creek andMt.Tabor! Even when we go away for the summer, hunger does not go away. Please remember to bring in your non-perishable items.

Mark Your Calendars:

It’s hard to believe that school begins in about a month! Be sure to come out to worship on Sunday, August 28th for a Backpack and Bus Blessing! We will say a special prayer for all of our students, teachers, schools, buses, bus drivers, and parents. Bring your backpack, your bus, or any other “tool of the trade.”

Annual Charge Conference: Sunday, October 30th at 12:30pm at Deer Creek (MT attends). More details will be coming, as will several meetings. Be thinking and praying for ways in which you can serve God through your congregation.

Worship Fun Fact! The “standard” prayers we say, the call to worship, etc. is called “liturgy.” This word means “the work of the people.” How are you working to praise God in worship?
