Shut Up! Can You Hear Me Now? (SATURDAY, 27 August 2011)

Hey there! We’ve had a crazy week around the Deer Creek Charge! There was an earthquake on Tuesday (but the good news is that both church buildings, the parsonage, and all parishioners are safe and unscathed!). Now, we  are preparing for what is being forcasted as the worst hurricane to hit the Northeast in 50 years! Hurricane Irene is scheduled to reach our area between 8 and 9am on Sunday morning. As a result, we’ve decided to MOVE WORSHIP UP ONE DAY to SATURDAY, 27 AUGUST 2011, at 12 NOON. It will be a combined worship service at Deer Creek. We hope to see you there!!

We’ve got a WONDERFUL worship service planned…this is one you won’t want to miss! The sermon title is “Shut Up! Can You Hear Me Now?” and is based on Exodus 3:1-15, Moses and the burning bush. Word on the street is that we will even have a “real” burning bush for worship! We will also be kicking off the new school year with a “Backpack and Bus Blessing” for all of our teachers, students, bus drivers, aides, administration, parents, and anyone else involved in education. This isn’t just for kids…high school, college, grad school and beyond folks are invited to bring in some books for blessing this year. So pack up your stuff…button down the hatches…and head out to join us for worship at 12 noon on Saturday! It will be an adventure! Hope to see you there! (If you have any questions about the change in worship schedule, please email deercreekcharge@gmail.com and we will get back to you).

There are lots of other things going on around the charge…be sure to check out the announcements for more. And we would LOVE to meet you…you are ALWAYS welcome. Please join us as we all learn how to grow closer to God.

Announcements:

Backpack and Bus Blessing TODAY!  ALL students (any age!), teachers, aides, schools, buses, bus drivers, parents an anyone else involved with education are welcome to come forward to receive a personal prayer.

School Supply Collection at Deer Creek—deadline TODAY.  Please place them near the altar railing for a blessing and distribution to local children in need.

Homecoming date TBD. We are still looking for a guest preacher. Suggestions? See Bonnie. If you would like to help, please contact Pat Raab or Sandy Taylor (MT).

We are looking for people who are not necessarily in current church leadership to help us imagine and vision what “church” can be. Be in prayer to see if God is calling you to help. You may be approached to help with this process that will allow our church leadership to design 5-year goals for our congregations.

S/PPRC (combined DC/MT) will be held Wednesday, September 15, 7pm atMT. Only current members may attend.

Do you enjoy children? Do you love God? We would love to get a list together of folks who can assist with Sunday School every few weeks or be a substitute teacher. Background check forms required. See Bonnie for a form.

Annual Charge Conference: Sunday, October 30th at 12:30pm at Deer Creek (MT attends). More details will be coming. Be thinking and praying for ways in which you can serve God through your congregation.

Don’t forget the on-going food drives at both Deer Creek andMt.Tabor! Let’s help restock the shelves before the holidays and winter. Non-perishable goods only.

Worship Fun Fact! When the acolyte (candle lighter) extinguishes the candle at the end of worship, he or she carries the light of Christ through the congregation to symbolize and remind each one of us to carry the Light of Christ into the world when we leave.
