Cheers (Sunday, 4 September 2011)

Making your way in the world today takes everything you’ve got.
Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot.
Wouldn’t you like to get away?
Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name,
and they’re always glad you came.
You wanna be where you can see,
our troubles are all the same
You wanna be where everybody knows
Your name.
You wanna go where people know,
people are all the same,
You wanna go where everybody knows
your name.

Do these lyrics sound familiar? They are from the old TV show, Cheers. In many ways, we expect community and church to be like this. But guess what? Life in community doesn’t work like this. Life in community is tough. And there WILL be conflict. So what do we do to deal with conflict in the Christian community? Come out and join us on Sunday to find out what Jesus says (or read Matthew 18:15-20…or both!). Let’s step it up a notch and not just “fake” community. Let’s BE community.

We’ll also take some time to share in communion together.

Announcements:

Starting TODAY, children will remain in worship with their families on the first Sunday of each month. The goal is that children learn to worship and feel part of the community. Worship sacks are available for use by the coat rack at Deer Creek. Red for younger children (approx. 3-7yrs), black for older children (approx. 8-10yrs). Children’s Bulletins will be provided as well. If you have questions or concerns about how to help your child worship, please see Bonnie; and by all means, COME!

If you have been given paperwork to fill out for charge conference, or sit on the nominations committee and have NOT returned your paperwork to Bonnie, please do so ASAP. Thanks to those who have turned everything in.

Homecoming date TBD. We are still looking for a guest preacher. Suggestions? See Bonnie. If you would like to help, please contact Pat Raab or Sandy Taylor (MT).

S/PPRC (combined DC/MT) will be held Wednesday, September 15, 7pm atMT. Only current members may attend.

We are looking for people who are not necessarily in current church leadership to help us imagine and vision what “church” can be. Be in prayer to see if God is calling you to help. You may be approached to help with this process that will allow our church leadership to design 5-year goals for our congregations.

Annual Charge Conference: Sunday, October 30th at 12:30pm at Deer Creek (MT attends). More details will be coming. Be thinking and praying for ways in which you can serve God through your congregation.

Don’t forget the on-going food drives at both Deer Creek andMt.Tabor! Let’s help restock the shelves before the holidays and winter. Non-perishable goods only.

Worship Fun Fact! When we give our offerings to God, it is a way of saying “Thank you” to God for all that God has given to us. What we give is a reflection of our faith and trust in God.
