Trapped–Sunday, 11 September 2011

Welcome back to the Deer Creek Charge! This week, we are talking about being trapped. We’ve all had those life experiences where we feel trapped, “between a rock and a hard place.” We have no where to turn. We are desperate. And when we hit bottom, we cry out to God. Sometimes it is with words…other times with sobs and anguish. And God hears our cries. And God provides a way out. Come explore how God provided a way out for the Israelites (we’re looking at Exodus 14:19-31 this week, if you want a preview), how God has provided a way out for us as a Christian community, and how God will provide a way out for you too. Curious? Good. Join us–we can’t wait to see you!

We’re also going to observe the 10th anniversary of 9-11 through our liturgy and prayers. This is NOT a “patriotic” service, per se, but rather, an acknowledgment of our own grief and confusion that still persists, and God’s unfailing presence in our lives. The focus of our worship service, as always, will be on God–not America, not us, not “stuff”–but God and God alone. We hope you will join us as we recall, remember, reflect, and put our trust and faith in God…learning to step out into the waters of faith.

We have A LOT of great things going on around the charge! We hope you will join us! Perhaps the most exciting news is that we have a Homecoming date and speaker! (See announcements for details). On this day, there will be no worship at Deer Creek–instead, we will combine for worship at Mt. Tabor at 11am. Be sure to mark your calendar and come out for our special events and regular activities. You are ALWAYS welcome!

Announcements:

S/PPRC (combined DC/MT) will be held Wednesday, September 14, 7pm at MT. Only current members may attend.

NEXT SUNDAY is 3rd Sunday fellowship atMt.Tabor! Join us after worship for food, fun, and fellowship. All are welcome.

Homecoming will be held on Sunday, October 16th at 11am atMt.Tabor. (NO service at Deer Creek—children’s activities available at MT). Our guest speaker for the day is Mr. Andy Thornton, Director of Retreat and Camping Ministries for the Baltimore-Washington Conference of the UMC, and Director of West River Center. If you would like to help, please contact Pat Raab or Sandy Taylor (MT).

Ever feel like you need a jolt of Power to get on track? Come explore the Power of the Holy Spirit in the Book of Acts! This 8-week study will have us delving in and reading all of Acts, exploring what the text says and how we can apply it to our churches and lives. Sign-up sheets are available at DC/MT. Day/Time/Location will be determined based on participant interest. Starts in October. ALL are welcome—even if you’ve never read the Bible before. If you are interested in co-leading or leading another study (with support) on a different day/time (perhaps for neighbors/friends?), see Bonnie ASAP. Cost: $10 or less. Financial help available.

WE NEED YOU! Have you ever dreamed of designing a church’s worship, programs, and missions? Have you ever said, “I wish we did…” ? See Bonnie ASAP for details.

Annual Charge Conference: Sunday, October 30th at 12:30pm at Deer Creek (MT attends). More details will be coming. Be thinking and praying for ways in which you can serve God through your congregation.

Don’t forget the on-going food drives at both Deer Creek andMt.Tabor! Let’s help restock the shelves before the holidays and winter. Non-perishable goods only.

Worship Fun Fact! When you go away on vacation, you still have to pay your bills. The same is true for the church. When you miss a week at church, we still have to pay our bills. Don’t forget to “catch up” after your summer travel times.
