Day By Day (Sunday, 18 September 2011)

While fall doesn’t “officially” arrive for another few days, around the Deer Creek Charge it already feels like fall! A cool front came in the other day, and daytime highs are in the 60s! We are already preparing for winter. The last crops will be brought in shortly. But fall doesn’t mean time to slack off for us! We’re just getting started! Kick-off the new school year with us–you won’t regret it. There are lots of great things going on NOW at Deer Creek and Mt. Tabor…and several more in the planning stages. Be sure to check out the announcements section.

This Sunday, we’re going to be continuing our journey through the Old Testament (Hebrew Bible). The Israelites have made it out of Egypt (yay!) and have crossed the Red Sea. They have rested for a month, and are now setting out to spend 40 years in the desert because they don’t follow where God leads. They spend all their time grumbling and complaining instead of listening. (Sound familiar??) Check it out in Exodus 16:2-31. We’ll be exploring some of this along with the idea that God provides everything we have or need–Day by Day–in this “manna from heaven” passage.  Music, hymns, fellowship, prayers all included! Please join us. You are always welcome here…you don’t need to change to come to Christ…but be prepared for Christ to change you.

Announcements:

TODAY is 3rd Sunday fellowship atMt.Tabor! Join us after worship for food, fun, and fellowship. All are welcome.

THIS THURSDAY will be a Visioning Meeting to imagine what church can be. Bring your dreams and ideas. All are invited. Pick the time that works best for you: 10am @MT OR 6:30pm @DC. The same items will be covered at both meetings.

NEXT SUNDAY we will have a combined Leadership Meeting (DC/MT) at Mt. Tabor at 12:15pm/end of worship. Everyone who will be serving in a leadership position is invited to come out, meet everyone else, receive some training, and help us plan some goals for the next 5 years, based on the input from the Visioning meeting. Should be over no later than 2pm. (The Ravens play at 4:15).

Ever feel like you need a jolt of Power to get on track? Come explore the Power of the Holy Spirit in the Book of Acts! This 8-week study will have us delving in and reading all of Acts, exploring what the text says and how we can apply it to our churches and lives. Sign-up sheets are available at DC/MT. Day/Time/Location will be determined based on participant interest. Starts in October. ALL are welcome—even if you’ve never read the Bible before. Cost: $10 or less. Financial help available.

Homecoming will be held on Sunday, October 16th at 11am atMt.Tabor. (NO service at Deer Creek—children’s activities available at MT). Our guest speaker for the day is Mr. Andy Thornton, Director of Retreat and Camping Ministries for the Baltimore-Washington Conference of the UMC, and Director of West River Center. If you would like to help, please contact Pat Raab or Sandy Taylor (MT).

Annual Charge Conference: Sunday, October 30th at 12:30pm at DC (MT attends).

Don’t forget the on-going food drives at both Deer Creek andMt.Tabor! Let’s help restock the shelves before the holidays and winter. Non-perishable goods only.

Worship Fun Fact! Offering envelopes help us to identify givers and to provide you with a tax form at the end of the year. If you don’t have an envelope number, let us know, so you can get one for next year.
