It’s Great to Go Home, But…(Sunday, 16 October 2011)

Thanks for stopping by the Deer Creek Charge! We are getting VERY excited for Homecoming this Sunday! This is a day where family, friends, neighbors, and even people you meet on the street get to come out and celebrate the life and ministry of our congregations! We will be worshipping at 11am at Mt. Tabor UMC. THERE WILL BE NO WORSHIP SERVICE AT DEER CREEK AT 9AM. PLEASE JOIN US FOR WORSHIP AT MT. TABOR AT 11AM. We hope to see you there! (Note: The service will be intergenerational. A children’s message, bulletins, and activities will be available for our youngest disciples).

Our guest speaker for Homecoming is Andy Thornton, Director of Retreat and Camping Ministries and Director of West River Center for the Baltimore-Washington Conference of the United Methodist Church. He will be bringing a message entitled, “It’s Great to Go Home, But…” based on the story of the  Prodigal (Lost) son in Luke 15:11-32. Our guest vocalist for Homecoming is Jena Sinha, a local high schooler with a passion for music. This is a day you won’t want to miss!

There are many things going on around the Deer Creek Charge! Be sure to check out our many announcements, and we hope to see you soon! Please let us know if you have any questions. There is a place for you, here.

Worship Fun Fact! Today’s first hymn, O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing, was originally a poem written by Charles Wesley. Beginning with stanza 7, it has been the first hymn in Methodist hymnals since 1780.  17 of the 18 stanzas are on page 58 in your hymnal. For more about the history of this hymn, see page 56 in the hymnal.
