Thanks for stopping by the Deer Creek Charge! Have you ever heard Martin Luther King’s iconic “I Have a Dream” Speech? This classic speech has been made famous, and inspired our worship for this week. You can check out audio and video links here. This week in worship, we will dare to imagine and dream what the church could be like when all the saints are gathered in. What is a saint? Is it a super holy person with a halo? Nope. It’s someone who does the work of God. Saints can be living or dead. This Sunday, we will observe All Saints Sunday by reading the names of those in our community who have died in the past year. There will also be a time for you to lift up additional names and light candles. Holy Communion will be celebrated in union with all the saints, both past and present. Come on in, all Saints and all Sinners. You are welcome here!

Worship Fun Fact! All Saints Day (November 1) is often observed on the first Sunday in November. It is a day of remembrance for the saints. United Methodists observe this day in unity with Christians of many times, places, cultures, and languages. We celebrate the witness of all the saints — all those who live and die in the Lord. In so doing, we bear witness to the hope that is in us, that we may be saints, those becoming perfect in holiness, in our own times, places, and cultural settings.

All Saints Day has been a significant celebration in the life of the church since at least the sixth century, and it marks the beginning of the church year in the Orthodox Church. While John Wesley did not include it in the three non-Sunday “Holy Days” he preserved from the Anglican calendar (Christmas, Good Friday, Ascension Day), he often remarked how significant the day and worship on this day was in his own life.
