Silly Putty Jesus (Christmas Eve Worship–24 December 2011)

Hello there! Thanks for checking us out! We are very excited about our Christmas Eve and Christmas Day worship services and hope that you will join us to marvel at the mystery of a savior born as a helpless baby in a barn to an unwed, teen mom. We have a little something for everyone.

Today we will have 2 services–a Candlelight service at 3pm at Mt. Tabor, and a Family Candlelight service at 7pm at Deer Creek.

The 3pm service will be your “traditional” service–plenty of music, a sermon, the choir, some soloists, lighting of candles…the whole nine yards. As in all of our services, children are welcome! We will have a children’s message and children’s bulletins for our youngest worshippers. Also, glow sticks are available for children and/or adults who don’t want to use a candle. This service should be over by 4pm, and will get you home before dark and dinner! All the tradition at an earlier time.

The 7pm service will also be a candlelight service. There will still be plenty of music, a sermon, the choir, and even a soloist along with our lighting of the candles. However, instead of a children’s message, the Sunday School class will be putting a pagent, “The Grumpy Shepherd” by Paddie Devon. This is a must-see! You have never seen the Christmas story told like this! This service will also have glowsticks and children’s bulletins available, however, the entire service is designed to be intergenerational and accessible to a wide range of ages. Just a note…parking at Deer Creek is always tight…if the small lot is full, feel free to park around the cemetery loop or along the road. This service should be over between 8:15 and 8:30.

Tomorrow morning (Christmas) we will be celebrating again with a combined worship service at 10am at Deer Creek (New Year’s Day will be a combined worship service at Mt. Tabor). Please see here for more information.

Tonight we will be talking about a Silly Putty Jesus–how do we try to manipulate Jesus and Christmas into what we want it to be instead of what God wants it to be? What is the true meaning of Christmas? And yes…all worshippers get Silly Putty tonight too! Check out Luke 2:1-20 if you have a chance.

We can’t wait to see you. It doesn’t matter who you are, what you look like, who you love or don’t love, what you wear or don’t wear, where you live or don’t live, where you work or don’t work, what you’ve done or left undone–you are welcome here. This is God’s house and we would love to be the host for you to experience God either for the first time or in a new way. You are welcome. Our hearts, minds, doors, and arms are open. Merry Christmas and may God bless you and your family in the new year!
