Resolutions (Sunday, 1 January 2012)

Thanks for stopping by the Deer Creek Charge! We hope that you are enjoying the Christmas season (Christmas in the church calendar starts on 25 Dec. and continues for 12 days until 6 Jan.–Epiphany/the celebration of the magi who came to bring Jesus gifts. So there is something to that song after all…the 12 days of Christmas!). This Sunday, come on out and join us for worship to start the new year off right! Our lay speaker, David Moore, will be preaching a sermon called “Resolutions,” based on Matthew 25:31-46 and Ecclesiastes 3:1-13.

***NOTE: WE WILL HAVE ONLY ONE COMBINED WORSHIP SERVICE AT 10AM AT MT. TABOR. “REGULAR” WORSHIP SCHEDULES WILL RESUME NEXT SUNDAY, 8 JANUARY (9AM AT DEER CREEK/11AM AT MT. TABOR).***

Announcements:

Thanks to David Moore for being our guest preacher today!

Next Sunday, “Regular” worship resumes (9am at DC, 11am at MT). We will have a guest preacher: Lay Speaker Michael Parker (from Baltimore, a friend of Bonnie).

Children’s worship bulletins are available for our youngest worshippers.

If you have been given End of the Year Statistical Reports, they are DUE to Bonnie NEXT SUNDAY, January 8 so that they can be entered on time.

Like to Knit or Crochet? Want to learn how and make a difference in the community? A new group, headed by Kathy B. (MT), will be forming in January. Day/time/format TBD. Possible projects include scarves/hats for the homeless and prayer shawls for homebound members/friends. Talk with Kathy or Bonnie if you are interested.

One Day Bible Study: Have you ever wanted to try a Bible Study, but just can’t find the time? Your problem is solved! Join us for a one day Bible Study on the book of Philemon (yeah, sounds impressive, but really only 25 verses) on Monday, Jan. 23, 10am at DC. Passages and starter questions are available at both churches. See Bonnie for info.

Don’t forget the on-going food drives at both Deer Creek and Mt. Tabor!

A Personal Note: I would like to thank everyone for their cards and gifts this year. I am deeply appreciative and honored to be your pastor. May God bless you and your family this Christmas season and the whole year long. Peace, Bonnie

Worship Fun Fact! The Epiphany (Manifestation) of the Lord is on January 6, but we celebrate it the first Sunday of January. It is an ancient celebration that is older than Christmas. Originally it focused on the nativity, incarnation, and baptism of Christ. Today we celebrate the coming of the three wise men (magi) who brought gifts to the Christ child. InLatin America it is called “Three Kings Day,” and children get small presents in their shoes.
