Water, Wilderness, Witness

Thanks for stopping by the Deer Creek Charge! This week, we are wandering in the wilderness with Jesus (Mark 1:9-15). Have you ever felt that you were abandoned in life, that God had forgotten about you and there was nothing left in the world to live for? Have you ever felt that your faith is a joke, and it’s only you to face the world of demons, nature, and wild beasts on your own? Have you ever felt abandoned by faith, family, and friends? Guess what? You are not alone. Each and every person, if they are truly honest with themselves, has experienced places of spiritual wilderness. It may have been caused by disease, the loss of a job, something that rocks your faith, a rough relationship with a partner or spouse, troubles with your kids, school, mental illness, work, trying to pay the bills, and more.

This week, we will explore how Jesus wandered in the wilderness, overcame spiritual and physical temptations, and relied on his identity from baptism to get through a tough time and come out on the other side praising God and ready to spread the message about God to the whole world. Is it possible to do this in our lives too? If you want a preview, check out this New York Times Article and ponder what it means to be alone…here and now…and then and there (for Jesus).

There are many fabulous things going on around Deer Creek and Mt. Tabor! Won’t you consider joining us for some or all of them? Check out the announcements below or contact us so we can help you get involved. Also, stay tuned…later this week, a dedicated post (that will be linked to the home page) will be up about Holy Week worship schedules…we can’t wait to see you!

Offering Envelopes: Are now available at Deer Creek and Mt. Tabor. Please pick yours up if you have not. Also…if you miss a week, don’t forget to “make up” the missed week(s) when you return. You may be gone, but the church still counts on you to meet our bills and obligations. Everyone counts…every amount counts. Thanks from the financial folks.

An Old Fashioned Hymn Sing, sponsored by Centre UMC, Forest Hill, will be held TONIGHT at 7pm. All are welcome. A reception will follow.

Worship Fun Fact! Today is the first Sunday in the church season called “Lent,” a time of 40 days (excluding Sundays, which are considered “mini Easters”) of self-reflection and preparation for Easter. What will you do to help yourself prepare for the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ?
