Christians: Jesus’ Secret Service (Sunday, 4 March 2012)

Sorry we didn’t get this up last week…illness took hold! But last week’s sermon was entitled “Christians: Jesus’ Secret Service” and asked us if we were committed to Christ enough to “take a bullet” for him…were we willing to die for Christ? This is the meaning behind Mark 8:27-38, and “take up your cross and follow me.” This isn’t about bearing a burden like we like to think about it…it is about being willing to die for your faith. Curious? Email us or leave us a comment, and we’ll send you a transcript of the sermon!

We also celebrated Holy Communion and blessed new prayer shawls.

Announcements for last week are below. Hope to see you soon!

Announcements:

Offering Envelopes: Are now available at Deer Creek and Mt. Tabor. Please pick yours up if you have not. Also…if you miss a week, don’t forget to “make up” the missed week(s) when you return. You may be gone, but the church still counts on you to meet our bills and obligations. Everyone counts…every amount counts. Thanks from the financial folks.

Help feed the Homeless at the Day Shelter (New Hope UMC, Edgewood) on the 3rd FRIDAY (MT) and 4th MONDAY (DC) of each month (next: Mar. 16). We need people to make, deliver, and serve food. A sign up sheet is on the bulletin board.

Knit/Crochet to benefit the community! No experience necessary…will teach! Make scarves for the homeless or prayer shawls for those in need. Meets every other Friday at 7pm at Mt. Tabor. Next Meeting: Mar. 9.

Holy Week Worship Schedule

Palm Sunday (April 1)—9am (DC), 11am (MT) for a procession of the palms

Holy Thursday (April 5)—7pm combined service at MT—includes communion

Good Friday (April 6)—7pm combined service at DC—family-friendly tenebrae (extinguishing of the candles) accompanied by the Deer Creek Choir

Easter (April 8)—9am (DC): Family Service with a children’s play; 11am (MT): Traditional Service; both services will include communion.

Summer Camp Brochures are available at both churches. Children K and up are invited to attend. Scholarships are available. Adults needed to counsel. See Bonnie for details.

We’re online! If you haven’t checked out our church website (https://deercreekcharge.wordpress.com) or don’t “like” us on Facebook, you should! Search for “Deer Creek Charge United Methodist Churches” and “like” us! The website is updated weekly with Scripture passages, topics for the sermon, and announcements. It’s a great resource for other information too! Look at the pics!

Don’t forget the on-going food drives at both Deer Creek and Mt. Tabor!

Worship Fun Fact! Notice the purple paraments (fancy church word for the fabric drapes hanging from the pulpit, etc.). These change to signify the church season. Purple is used in the season of Lent to remind us of the royalty of Jesus and of penitence/reflection.
