Holy Havoc (Sunday, 11 March 2012)

Thanks for checking out our blog section! We’re glad to have you here! This Sunday, we are taking a look at how Jesus wreaked “holy havoc” on ancient Jerusalem by upending the tables in the temple courtyard and symbolically overturned the established order of the ancient Jewish world. How can we as modern American Christians go out and wreak “holy havoc” on the systems of injustice, oppression, and evil that hold the world hostage today? How can we live like Christians in a world that sometimes seems to attack us? (Check out the new show from ABC, “GCB” for a preview of a sermon illustration). I’ll give you a hint…it isn’t by maintaining the status quo! If you get a chance, check out John 2:13-22 and then come out on Sunday to hear the rest of the story! (P.S. If you didn’t get a pocket cross giveaway last week, ask for one this week!)

As a side note…Holy Week worship schedules have been in the announcement section for several weeks now, but there is also a dedicated blog post here if you want quick access to that info (it is also linked from the home page). Come out and join us…you are welcome! Upcoming exciting things: more Bibles being distributed to children/youth, a children’s play on Easter, more prayer shawls being dedicated, and new members joining…including some baptisms! We have room and a place for you. May God bless you on your spiritual journey…

We’re online! If you haven’t checked out our church website (https://deercreekcharge.wordpress.com) or don’t “like” us on Facebook, you should! Search for “Deer Creek Charge United Methodist Churches” and “like” us! The website is updated weekly with Scripture passages, topics for the sermon, and announcements. It’s a great resource for other information too! Look at the pics!

Don’t forget the on-going food drives at both Deer Creek and Mt. Tabor!

Worship Fun Fact! We are in the Christian season called “Lent.” This word comes from the Anglo-Saxon word lencten, which means “spring.”
