A Nailed Suprise! Easter Sunday (8 April 2012)

Thanks for checking out our blog! We’re sorry for such a late post…it’s been a hectic Holy Week around the Deer Creek Charge! We celebrated Holy Thursday together and remembered the last meal that Jesus shared with his disciples. We observed Good Friday together and read the passion narrative (with great choir accompaniment!) in a tenebrae service (service of light and darkness, with a gradual extinguishing of the candles). And this Sunday, we are celebrating Easter! Alleluia! Christ is Risen!

Our services at both Deer Creek and Mt. Tabor will be Family-Friendly and designed for worshipers of all ages! Something for everyone. Children (with all their noise and questions) are not only welcome, but encouraged to come and celebrate! Children’s bulletins and age-appropriate activities will be available at both churches. There is NO SUNDAY SCHOOL at Deer Creek on Sunday. Please have your children remain in worship with you. There will be a Children’s Message at Mt. Tabor, and an interactive Children’s Message/play at Deer Creek. No rehearsals necessary! All children who attend are invited to participate!

Our sermon is called “A Nailed Surprise” based on Mark 16:1-8. There will be rousing hymns, a choir anthem, and Holy Communion will be celebrated. Remember, in the United Methodist Church, all people who earnestly repent of their sins and seek to grow in love and fellowship with Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior are welcome to come and receive the elements of bread and grape juice.

If you have any questions about our services, please feel free to contact us or speak with the pastor before worship begins. We hope to see you there as we celebrate the most important story to our faith–the Resurrection of Jesus Christ! Alleluia! Christ is Risen! Christ is Risen, Indeed!

We warmly welcome all of our visitors to worship this morning! If you have any questions or concerns, please see the pastor or anyone helping to lead in worship. If you do not regularly attend worship with us, please fill out an index card with your name, address, phone # and email, and drop it in the offering plate. We hope to see you soon!

Worship Fun Fact! The Easter Season, also known as the Great Fifty Days, begins at sunset on Easter Eve and continues through the day of Pentecost (May 27, this year). The origin of the English word, “Easter” is disputed, but may come for the Anglo-Saxon spring goddess Eastre and her festival.
