Blessing of the Backpacks!

For the past few weeks we have been exploring the story of David, both his rise and fall as king. The story is found in 1 and 2 Samuel. This is our final week on David, and it is also our Blessing of the Backpacks!

If you have collected school supplies, give them to the kids when we have our offering, so they may be dedicated as well and then distributed to Mason Dixon Community Services.

Help feed the Homeless at the Day Shelter (New Hope UMC, Edgewood) on the 3rd FRIDAY (MT) and 4th MONDAY (DC) of each month Next: September 21 (MT) and September 24 (DC). We usually meet at each church around 11ish. We need people to make, deliver, and serve food.

Don’t forget the on-going food drives at both Deer Creek and Mt. Tabor!

Let’s Pound the Pastor! We will have a pounding of the pastor, where we bring a pound of flour/sugar/etc. to welcome Shannon and Aaron Sunday September 9 anytime between 12:30 and 3. Shannon would love to have you see the parsonage whether or not you bring flour, of course, so come on over after church!

Bible Study will start up again this fall! You chose Max Lucado’s Facing Your Giants: A David and Goliath Story for Everyday People. Start date to come!

September and October are going to be busy months of worship together! Pray for us, and get excited!

Homecoming at Mt. Tabor will be on September 16.

We will have combined worship at 11 am at Mt. Tabor followed by a potluck luncheon. Rev. Ed Heydt will be preaching! Spread the word!

Sing Along Service will be on September 23.

Bring your singing voices as we sing the rest of our collected favorite songs and celebrate music in worship!

New Member Sunday at Deer Creek on September 30!

We will welcome a new member at Deer Creek in worship. Come celebrate with us!

Weekly Prayer: Even though we aren’t all going back to school, may we pray for new possibilities and new opportunities to learn!

We thank you for the fragrance of a new box of crayons, Lord, the rainbow in each perfect row; thank you for each bundle of snowy white notebook paper, awaiting fresh possibilities. May they remind us that you make all things new and bless us with abundance. Thank you for this ruler; for every eraser that tops every pencil, may they help us remember to measure our blessings, but never your boundless love for us; to allow for the making of mistakes as a normal part of human learning. As we lay out our new clothes for these first days of school, help us remember to put on Christ each day, too, and to “clothe the naked” as He asked us.

But mostly, God, help us remember that Jesus is always our best and most devoted teacher— that we never outgrow all his lessons on how you want us to live and to love. Amen.
